Liverpool at night is packed with people from near and far attracted to the city for its countless bars, restaurants, clubs and pubs. Anything from the traditional British pub to the most modern and stylish cocktail bar is catered for in the city centre and if it is a peaceful evening, rock music, an indie special or dance sounds you are after you will find it here. The vibe in the street at night, especially on the weekends, is buzzing and the people friendly and out to have a good time. The perfect place to be to party, drink and get drunk has to be Liverpool.
If it is your first time to the city then as good a place as any to start is Concert Square. Located in the heart of Liverpool and right in the middle of the bar and club scene, coming here on a weekend will give you a real taste of what Liverpool has to offer. Mathew Street is another popular area that attracts crowds to its exciting bars and clubs, and for the ultra-trendy head to Victoria Street or St Peters Square. Not far from Mathew Street is Eberle Street, an after-hours clubbing strip and popular gay and gay-friendly drinking spot. If you like to dance until morning then try Super Club Garlands, open to 4am, G bar or Passion nightclub where you can stay well into the late hours of the morning.
The Albert Dock is also a popular area for the smart set with Circo bar, Baby Cream and Pan America. Offering something a little more up market and glamouress than the centre of town it's popular with young professionals and the seriously stylish and fashionable.
One of the first trendy bars to appear in the city and still packed out most nights is Baa Baa, its great here on a summer evening as it has a large patio. Open now for more than 10 years, it's not as high-class as the newer bars, however it is a familiar local and still popular. The clientele is a combination of locals and students and the music changes from soul and jazz during the day to old school and funky house at night.
Chibuku Shake Shake is a twice monthly event that is hugely successful and received a nomination for best small night in Muzik Magazine awards. Thought up by students bored with hyped DJ's and high bar prices they were determined to provide the clubbing scene with an alternative track. The Chibuku crew has become a huge hit in Liverpool and the nights are all the rage with students and clubbers with an enthusiasm for real music.
LIVERPOOL'S most famous club has to be The Cavern as it is where the Beatles made their name and played hundreds of times before hitting the big time. Even today, it is a favourite for watching live bands. A landmark in Liverpool for more than 45 years, it's a small venue with low ceilings and exposed brickwork which gives it that secretive feeling. They offer a choice of nights from indie and student nights to live bands and most nights the club is busy, and free to get in.
For something different then there are various theatres in Liverpool, from the Everyman and Playhouse to the Unity and Empire theatres, offering a choice of contemporary, classic and touring productions, including the celebrated 'Made in Liverpool' series.
